An AI Book Gift, Made Just for Them

Some gifts get unwrapped and forgotten. A book made for someone, their story, your memories together, or an adventure starring them by name, gets kept for years. BookFoundry turns an idea into a custom, printed keepsake: a personalized book gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding, retirement, or just because. You bring the person and the moments; the engine writes and formats a finished book, ready to print or send.

Why it works

A gift no one else can give

Not a mug or a card. A book written around one person: their name, their story, the moments only you know. The kind of present people keep on a shelf, not in a drawer.

For every occasion

Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, retirements, new babies, or just because. Pick the person and the occasion, and the story is shaped to fit.

A real, printed keepsake

Export a print-ready PDF and order a hardcover, or send a beautiful EPUB instantly. A finished book with a cover, not a rough draft.

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose who it's for

A child, a partner, a parent, a friend. Tell us the occasion and the story you want to tell.

  2. 2

    Add the personal details

Their name, your shared memories, the inside jokes, the moments that matter. The more you add, the more personal it gets.

  3. 3

    Print it or send it

Get a finished, personalized book. Order a printed copy to unwrap, or send the digital edition in seconds.

Which kind of book to actually make

The hardest part of a book gift is not writing it. It is deciding what it should be. Four choices cover almost everyone. If the person has a life worth recording, a parent or a grandparent, make a memoir or a biography about them; you supply what you know and the flow asks the questions you would not have thought to ask. If the gift is for a child, make a children's book with them as the hero by name, with their pet and the things they are into written into the plot. If the person is a reader with a private favourite genre, write them a novel in it, which is a stranger and better present than it sounds. And if what you actually want to give is the story of the two of you, how you met, the year you both remember, the running joke nobody else understands, that is a memoir with the audience set to one close person. Choosing wrong is the main way these gifts disappoint. A generic story with a name inserted reads as generic no matter how nice the cover is.

The details that make it sound like them

There is a reliable difference between a gift book that lands and one that is politely shelved, and it is not length or polish. It is specificity. Adjectives describing someone are worthless in a book about them. Nobody is moved by being called kind and hardworking. What lands is the particular: the car that never started in winter, the phrase they say when they are annoyed, the shop that closed in the year everyone left, the fact that they always cut the crusts off. Give the engine three of those and the book will sound like the person. Give it a list of virtues and it will produce something that could be about anyone. This is the whole job and it takes about ten minutes. Write down the details only you would know, the odd small ones, the ones that seem too trivial to include. Those are the ones the reader will stop at, and they are the reason the book gets kept.

You can plan the whole thing before spending anything

Two of the flows most used for gifts let you see what the engine understood before any credit is charged. In the children's flow, ask for a preview and you get the hero, the companion, the lessons the story intends to carry and the tone it will use, laid out as a plan you can edit in place or reset entirely. In the memoir flow, the engine extracts the real events from what you wrote, dates and places and turning points, and shows them to you as a list to correct before a single word of the book is written. Both steps are free. This is worth using rather than skipping, because a gift book has one failure mode that matters: getting a fact wrong about the person it is for. A wrong year on a wedding, a misspelled town, a sibling left out. Reading the plan is where you catch that, and it takes two minutes.

What to make for which occasion

For a milestone birthday, the life story tends to beat the funny idea. Sixty and eighty are the ages where people want to be seen rather than teased. For a wedding, the story of how the couple met, written as a memoir with both of them as the audience, is the version that gets read aloud. For a retirement, the strongest angle is usually the work itself: what the person built, who they trained, the era of the industry they lived through, which is a real book and not a card. For a new baby, most people make something for the child to read later rather than now, which means a book about the family they were born into, dated and kept. And for a memorial, a biography assembled from what the family remembers is the one gift that gets harder to make with every year that passes, which is the argument for making it early rather than at the right moment.

Give it in the language they think in

A gift book read in someone's second language is a gift they have to work at. That is the opposite of the intention. BookFoundry writes in eighteen languages and writes in each of them natively, planning and phrasing the book in that language from the outline rather than producing an English draft and translating it at the end. For a grandparent this is often the entire difference between a book they get through and a book they put down after a page. It also solves the common family case, where the person making the gift is most fluent in one language and the person receiving it in another. You write your notes in whatever language you think in, and you choose the language the book comes out in separately, at the start.

How much time to leave yourself

The digital version is quick. You describe the book, approve the plan, and the engine writes it, after which you can read the whole thing and change any chapter that missed. Most of the elapsed time in a gift book is not generation, it is you deciding the details are right, which is worth doing properly. A printed copy is the part that needs planning ahead. BookFoundry exports a print-ready PDF built to the specifications Amazon KDP expects, along with EPUB and DOCX, but the printing and the delivery are handled by whichever print service you use, on their schedule. So order the copy several days before you need it in your hands. If the occasion is closer than that, send the digital edition on the day and give the printed one when it arrives, which people generally like better anyway because it happens twice.

Frequently asked questions

An AI generated book gift is a real, finished book written around one person: their name, their story, and the moments you choose. You describe who it is for and what matters, and the engine writes and formats the whole book, ready to print as a hardcover or send as an EPUB.
Anything personal: a children's story starring a child by name, a memoir of a parent's life, the story of how a couple met, or a fun adventure about a friend. If it is about the person, it makes a memorable gift.
Yes. Every gift book exports as a print-ready PDF you can send to a print-on-demand service for a hardcover or paperback, plus an EPUB for instant digital gifting.
Minutes to generate the book, then as long as you like to personalize and refine it. For a printed copy, add standard print-on-demand shipping, so order a few days ahead of the occasion.
For a digital copy, yes. You describe the book, approve the plan, and read the finished draft the same day. A printed copy depends on your print service's own printing and delivery times, so leave several days for that. A common approach is to send the digital edition on the day and hand over the printed copy when it arrives.
Specific ones. The particular phrase they always say, the car that never started, the shop that closed, the thing they do that everyone in the family teases them about. Three real details beat a paragraph of adjectives. A list of virtues produces a book that could be about anyone.
In the children's and memoir flows, yes. Both show you the engine's plan first, the hero and lessons in one case, the extracted real events in the other, and both let you correct it in place before any credit is charged. For a gift this is the step that catches a wrong date or a misspelled name.
Yes, eighteen of them, and each is written natively in that language rather than translated from English at the end. You choose the book's language separately from the language you write your own notes in, which matters when the gift is for a grandparent.
